From New York Times Bestseller, Vi Keeland, comes a sexy new standalone novel.
The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn't exactly make a good impression.
I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date. He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.
So I told him to mind his own damn business―his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business―and went back to my miserable date.
When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date. I couldn't help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.
When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out. But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us―telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood. My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting. When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I'd never see him again.
I mean, what were the chances I'd run into him again in a city with eight million people? Then again...
What were the chances a month later he'd wind up being my new sexy boss?
Ok, I LOVED this one.
Reese meets Chase for the first time in the back hallway of a restaurant. She is trying to call her friend because she really needs to be saved from her boring as hell date who won’t stop talking about his mother. Chase overhears the conversation and calls her out on it – not a good first impression. Some time later though, Chase shows up at Reese’s table, where he crashes her date and comes up with some crazy stories about being her childhood friend. Reese rolls with it, and the evening gets a lot more interesting.
She thinks she’ll never see him again after that night, but after several more chance encounters Reese ends up with a job at the company Chase owns, and from there, sparks fly.
After reading several books where I found the main characters to be lacking chemistry and just downright unlikeable, Bossman was a refreshing change. It was light, fun, sexy and real.
“I’m up for the challenge.”
“Waiting it out. Or breaking you down. One or the other.”
Vi Keeland did a fantastic job of building Chase and Reese’s story. It was well written, with great, well-developed characters, a good plot and some fantastic dynamics. It was a slow-burn romance, which I typically enjoy more than a story where the characters are having no holds barred sex by the second chapter. The chemistry between Reese and Chase was fantastic – I loved the banter, the dirty talk didn’t seem contrived and you could feel the tension as it built between them.
“You’re fired,” he groaned as he buried his face in my hair. “So fucking fired.”
The only downfall I found was the flashbacks to Chase’s life with his now-dead fiancé. I get how they related to his current relationship with Reese, but honestly, I could have done without them. It sometimes felt like a third person in Chase and Reese’s relationship. (Actually, I read the first flashback chapter thinking it was in the present day, and then spent several pages after that wondering when Reese would realize she was the “other woman”. It really threw me, and I had to go back and re-read once I figured it out!)
“We’ve both been fighting it for different reasons. But you’ve been mine since I saw you.”
That aside, I would definitely recommend this book! It has everything I look for in a romance story and it was a great escape for the few hours it took to read. This story was just done right. If you love a sexy, real, heartwarming yet steamy romance, definitely add this on to your TBR!
